Kim was given his first drum kit when he was eight years old, and slightly older joined a brass band. He describes his teens as hybrid, since he felt equally at home in jazz clubs and discotheques. On his HiFi Wham, Duran Duran and Michael Jackson were just as appreciated as Terje Rypdal, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Herbie Hancock. Listening to these and other drummers taught Kim to become both an admirer and critic. After he completed High School / A-levels, he moved to the USA to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston. At college he made musical acquaintances with people from all over the world. Still it was meeting Norwegian fellow student Jonny Sjo that turned out to be significant. "The first time we played together I felt that this was something really special; we made a steady, perky and complete rhythm section". Kim returned to Oslo in 1991, and session work, both studio and on the road, was lined up.
Kim uses SONOR drums & Zildjian cymbals.
